    Background & Educational Qualification

    Khalid Anis Ansari is Assistant Professor of Sociology at Glocal Law School. Ansari broadly works in the field of social and cultural theory with special focus on democratic transformation and subaltern counterpublics, caste and religion, and social histories of the marginalized. His doctoral work with the University of Humanistic Studies (UvH), Utrecht, the Netherlands was on: ‘Pluralism, Development and Democracy: An Explorative Case-Study of the Pasmanda Counterpublic’.

    Ansari is the founding-member of the research-activism group called The Patna Collective (2006) and has been associated with democratic movements in North India as an interlocutor and knowledge activist. He has worked on various research and community development projects internationally supported by organizations in India [Centre for Study of Culture and Society (CSCS), Bangalore; Actionaid, Patna], the Netherlands [Mensen meteen Missie (M & M) and HIVOS] and the U.K. [The Gandhi Foundation]. Presently, he is also contributing as Associate Researcher to the Alice Project coordinated by Centre for Social Studies (CES), University of Coimbra, Portugal.  He has also contributed to various periodicals, newspapers and websites like the Economic & Political Weekly, Mainstream, Himal Southasian, Communalism Combat, Forward Press, The Hindu, The Pioneer, Rashtriya Sahara (Hindi), Prabhat Khabar (Hindi), kafila.org, countercurrents.org and cafedissensus.com. He writes in both English and Hindi.

    Ansari has been awarded the HIVOS PhD Fellowship—Pluralism Knowledge Programme (2010-2013) for his doctoral work. He was also awarded The Gandhi Foundation (UK) fellowship for researching on ‘Class and Identity’ (2007). His educational degrees include MBA, MA (Sociology) and UGC-NET (Sociology).
